Summer Update Newsletter

Welcome to our Bi-Monthly newsletter! Summer Enrichment is almost over and have been enjoying such a great time with our scholars. Here's the latest updates from our chapter.

Summer Enrichment Highlights

  • Our scholars at Achieve Community Charter School went to Turtle Back Zoo and interacted with animals and agriculture.

  • The scholars at Speedway Academy practiced some advanced cosmetology techniques while using mannequins to create.

  • At our Belmont Runyon site, their scholars were treated to an amazing field day that included a magic show, games, food, and even laser tag!

We Are Hiring For The Fall!

Our school year enrichment programming starts in a few weeks! We are hiring for three roles as we prepare for another amazing year of enrichment. Click the buttons below for your roles of interest or share within your network.

Vision To Learn

This summer we are grateful for our partnership with Vision To Learn. This allowed our scholars to be treated to free eye exams, vision screenings, and glasses; courtesy of Vision To Learn. Vision To Learn is a national organization that provides mobile and on-location eye care services to students across the country.

At the end of their sessions, some of our scholars received free prescribed glasses free of charge. We want to thank Vision To Learn for their consistent support of ASAS New Jersey!

From Newark to Orlando: Fatoumata’s Journey

One of our scholars, Fatoumata represented the New Jersey Chapter at All-Star Leadership University (ASLU) in Orlando, Florida. The ASLU is a leadership conference hosted by the national program team of After-School All-Stars.

After being selected by her group of program leaders at Camden Street School and scholar, Fatoumata attended ASLU alongside our Program Manager, Gail Campbell. All-Star Leadership University brings together our Youth Advisory Board students and their mentors from all of our chapters for a week of learning, mentorship, and community.

This year’s theme is a play off our acronym and will focus on Advocacy, Service, Leadership, and You – as in, our students’ voice and choice. During this time, Fatoumata interacted with other scholars within our ASAS network, attended inspirational sessions, and even explored Orlando in the process!
