BACKGROUND CHECKS & SCREENINGS
May Not Be Required If a Minor
If required, you will schedule a background check appointment and/or medical screening appointment.
Results must be submitted to the ASAS NJ Operations Coordinator immediately upon receipt.
Be sure to keep all receipts & documentation.
ONBOARDING
If cleared, you will complete a series of onboarding tasks including (but not limited to):
Signing of the official offer letter & working agreement
Direct deposit or check mailing setup
Signing of ASAS national & NJ chapter policies, handbooks, and agreements
ORIENTATIONS & TRAINING
After onboarding completion, you will complete training & orientations including (but not limited to):
Safe Schools online training
ASAS NJ chapter &  intern/ Jr. staff orientation
SITE PLACEMENT & SHIFT ASSIGNMENT
After orientation & training completion, you will be assigned to an ASAS NJ site and weekly shift schedule.
WELCOME TO SITE
OFFICIAL START OF INTERNSHIP
Once approved & cleared, you will report to your assigned site at your assigned shift schedule time.
Site Coordinator (SC) (supervisor) may require additional orientation and/or training at the site.
Site Coordinator will assign specific tasks/responsibilities 
PAYMENT SCHEDULE 
ASAS staff are paid bi-monthly (every two weeks) in accordance with the ASAS national pay period schedule.  
Depending on your start date, there may be 1-2 weeks before payment is processed. 


To be sure, check with the ASAS NJ Operations Coordinator AFTER the completion of your 
Safe Schools training to know when you can expect your first payment.

INTERN - Jr. Program Leader (Enrichment Course/ Activity Facilitation Support)
PAY:
$15/hour    10 hours per week
LOCATION(s):
Various throughout Newark.  Sites include charter and public school sites.

Monday-Friday 3:30–5:30 PM (NBOE & PhAC Sites)

ROLE DESCRIPTION:
PROGRAM & FACILITATION SUPPORT
Provide daily support for quality instruction and course/activity facilitation 
Daily positive engagement that fosters a safe & secure environment where scholars thrive
Work collaboratively with site Program Team for the smooth delivery of program courses & activities
Prepare supplies and materials before program begins; clean-up and store materials tidily in ASAS NJ designations supply area
Cultivate inviting, safe, orderly environments where scholars are comfortable to share, create, & shine
Maintain professional & positive relationships with staff, partners, scholars, and families

Always supervise scholars; no student alone, no 1-1 private interactions 
Commitment to attending work daily, on-time for full shifts

Attend and actively participate in professional development trainings, workshops, and meetings
-
Track and monitor daily attendance
Assist Site Coordinator and/or Assistantt Site Coordinator with administrative tasks
Assist Program Team with scholar recruitment and/or family engagement

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE 
The ideal candidate has familiarity with and passion for working with inner-city youth, in addition to one year or more of non-profit, teaching, or related youth development program

 


Must be 16-20 years of age
Available to work the assigned work schedule without conflict
Love working with children with a connection to and passion for mentoring Newark/inner-city youth
English language proficiency (verbal & written)
Eligible to work in the US with children; clear fingerprinting, background, and Tuberculosis screening
Strong facilitation/group management skills
Ability to work cooperatively & collaboratively with program staff, students, parents, & community leaders
Effective communication demonstrating sensitivity to others & swift response to critically urgent incidents
Ability to positvely and actively respond to feedback while implementing necessary changes 
Excellent organizational skills & familiarity with basic computer software programs 
Compliance with the company, site, and/or school district/network policies protocols
Experience and/or expertise in one or more of (but not limited to) the following areas:
Animation/ Graphic Design/ Visual Arts
Carpentry & 3D Creation
Cooking
Cosmetology
DJing, Sound Engineering, Music Production
Fashion Design & Sewing, Crocheting, and Knitting
Financial Empowerment
Fitness & Wellness
